Catalogue of the exhibition One After Another, A Few Silent Steps… at Museo Colecção Berardo Lisboa, Hamburger Kunsthalle, Carrè d’Art – Musée d’Art Contemporain de Nîmes, 2010-2011. Curated by Sabrina van der Ley, Jean-François Chougnet, Françoise Cohen.
With texts by Dieter Schwarz (Editor), António Lobo Antunes, Pedro Cabrita Reis, Sabrina van der Ley.
Since the early 1990s, the work of Pedro Cabrita Reis (born 1956) has revolved around the subjects of home and territory, in works based on tables and chairs, doors and windows. The “homelessness” of humanity is a constant of Cabrita Reis’ concerns. This exhibition, an anthology, traces a labyrinthine path and creates a dialogue between works distanced by time and methods of making. Continuities, tensions and ruptures, leaps forward and retracing of steps help us see his work as a vast arena of possibilities within which painting remains the font of visual thought and artistic practice.
